Automation Test – If I start, should I start starting with WATIR-WEBDRIVER?

My team has an automated solution using watir. In fact, we have two versions, one for our software and the other for the other version. I found changes The version of Watir is not easy, so I want to choose the right version for my new project (build an exploratory framework like Jim Knowlton talking about Watir Podcast#30).

Our product support IE and Firefox. It can support other browsers in the future, such as Chrome or Safari. Although we created a webdriver framework to better access properties, most of the interface technologies are supported by watir.

So I think Watir Webdriver may be my best choice today. I haven’t used it, or even used it to comment on other people’s happiness, I’m just not sure if it’s ready. What do you think?

I think the watir-webdriver and Firefox drivers are ready for production at this time, but There are some notable exceptions:

> Frame support still needs more work
> Alerts/prompts not supported
> Table API is incomplete/unfinished

Having a stable and usable Firefox driver is my top priority, so I haven’t spent much time testing IE, Chrome or HtmlUnit (remote).

The result of our specification suite (watir2 branch of watir2) It should be a good indicator of the degree of browser support:

> Firefox: Pass: 94%, total time: 201 seconds.> Chrome: Pass: 89%, total time: 1207 seconds.> IE : Passing: 83%, total time: 2238 seconds.
