Hardware – What is a good serial port USB adapter?

The serial port on the device is still used in many ways, especially on network devices. However, most modern laptops no longer have serial (also known as “COM”) Port.

So what I am curious about is: what adapter or chipset is used in the adapter?

Ideally, it only needs to plug in a machine and Just Work ™ without installing any drivers. This way, anyone in the system administrator team can easily grab it and Use it without having to find the software CD or go online to find the driver. In addition, I think it should be on Windows XP&Just Work(tm) 7, Mac OS X(10.5?, 10.6), preferably Linux(2.6).

From the serial end to the present, connecting the light blue Cisco cable to it should work for any RJ-45 serial console on most devices now. (Generally assumed to be 9600 8N1. )

Thank you for any information.

I have a couple, I I have seen some very bad things. No matter what you buy, make sure it has a female USB port (USB-B port) on one end and a female serial port (DB-9) on the other end. I have actually seen USB<- >The place where the serial device has a USB cable. Stupid.

I often use this keyboard: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?sourceid=chrome&q=keyspan+ usb+serial&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=14565954588677202805&ei=MYiKS4ymLYyWtgefyZm9Dw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CCAQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers
