I am building a huge company for my work File server. We bought a NORCO RPC-4224 4U rackmount server case server case with 24 bays and drives. Now I have to choose a RAID card. I saw that the LSI RAID card provides 6 An internal mini-SAS 8087 port (6×4), and it works perfectly with my build. However, it is not cheap.
I have been reading articles about this topic, and I found I have a thing called SAS Expander. They are very cheap. HP is selling an expander card with 6 mini SAS 8087 for 225 $ (instead of another 1150 $). Now my question is, how to convert Is the SAS expander connected to the RAID card? Do I need to buy a RAID card with only one external 8088 port and connect it to another card? Can someone clarify this for me because I didn’t find any good files.
Thank you.

But in general, yes, you can use an HP SAS expander to link a controller to a This machine provides more disks with 2 SFF-8087 ports. Of course, this only applies to internal SAS disks.
For the chassis you link, there are 6 SFF-8087 ports, no oversubscription. A SAS expander will be needed.
