Embedded – Reverse Engineering ROOS Equipment

I understand that my question may be too abstract and tricky to reply with OneTrueAnswer©, but I hope I can express myself to get some kind of useful feedback.

It has an interesting device with the following specifications. (From http://www.motia.co.kr/product/product_03.asp):

> 80386 compatible processor (Intel )33MHz
> SRAM 512KB
>Flash 4MB
> ROM 512KB
>Video 32KB
> 320 x 200 pixel STN LCD with backlight, with touch screen
> 3 RS-232 Port
> ROM Dos 6.2 OS

Of course, it is not iNexus-Pre, but it is free ;). Anyway, it should be embedded in the track and the track. Tracking operations, installed in In the console of the truck. But not me. My goal is to bend this device as I want and pair it with an Arduino (or similar) to satisfy my desire for DIY projects. Come on, the three serial ports and the touch screen let My eyes shine.

Even if I come from some kind of technical background, I must admit that I don’t know where to start this thing. All I can do is open it and access its shell from a serial terminal ,At the same time, the display only shows: “System initialization. Please wait…”, that’s it.

Of course, I tried to contact Motia to request a certain type of SDK, but I was quickly and gracefully fired .

So needless to say, I exposed my problem:

>First and foremost: Is it worth it? I am willing to spend a few weekends on this issue, but given my infinite stupidity, I don’t know how difficult my task is. If so…
>… Where do I start? I have never developed anything on DOS (at least important), especially GUI. I hope I can change it.
>What else can I offer you to help me achieve my goals?

Every kind of feedback is recognized.

Thanks in advance!

Is it worth it? I’m willing to spend several weekends on the matter

Absolutely not. It will be very painful, you can learn more by spending time buying a development board with documentation.

What else can I provide you to help me accomplish my goal?

If saving money is your goal, please visit eBay Search for “Developing Touch Screen” on the website.
There is now an STM32 module priced at $58.

Better yet, on http://www.adafruit.com (without LCD) Get Chumby for $89.

If you really want to use a microprocessor and spend less than $5, please visit http://www.yourwarrantyisvoid.com/2010/11/05/ti -launchpad-dev-kit-for-under-5/Get TI Development Kit.
