My suggestion is to keep Android temporarily unaffected, let the underlying linux do mesh network and test it with the command line executable file, and then start android Back up and do some interesting Android gui apps to showcase your work.
Or you can try to pass the grid implementation to the android/dalvik psuedo-java level by writing a stub driver, but if it’s me , I will implement the grid at the linux level, just open the interface for configuring/monitoring/debugging java-level applications.
