Router password recovery

If you forget the router’s enable password, you will not be able to enter the privileged mode, so you will not be able to configure the router. If you want to reconfigure the router at this time, you must make the router bypass the startup-config configuration (the enbale password is stored in the startup-config) at startup, and then reconfigure the enable password.

Specific steps:

1. Restart the router, and press Ctrl+Break at the same time to interrupt the loading of IOS, the router will enter the ROM Monitor mode.

2. Change the value of the configuration register to 0x2142, which means that the startup-config configuration is ignored during startup. As shown in the figure:

3. The router will restart again, because the value of the configuration register is changed, the router will The configuration file cannot be loaded, so there will be no more login password.

4. After entering the configuration mode, manually load the configuration file back. As shown in the figure:

5. Use the show run command to view which passwords are configured on the router, and change the passwords one by one.

6. Modify the value of the configuration register and save the configuration.

Router IOS recovery

Specific steps:

1. Connect the router with a network cable The F0/0 port is connected to the host’s network card.

2. When the router’s IOS file has been damaged, so the process of loading IOS will inevitably fail, and the prompt “rommon 1>” will appear in the configuration interface. As shown in the figure:

3. Enter the command tftpdnld, press Enter and follow the prompts to complete the following configuration. As shown:

4. At the prompt as shown, enter “Y”. As shown in the figure:

5. According to the prompts displayed after entering the naming in step 3, enter them one by one. As shown in the figure:

6. When this is done, you need to configure a tftp server according to the first Step 3 Enter the static IP address displayed after naming, and there must be a router IOS file in the root directory of the tftp server.

7. Enter the command tftpdnld again. As shown:

8. At the prompt as shown, enter “y” again. As shown in the figure:

After pressing Enter, rows of exclamation marks will appear, indicating that the IOS file is being transferred.

9. After the transmission is successful, enter the command reset to restart the router.
