TVOS – Test the volume and home button on the SIRI remote control

It is relatively simple to detect some keys on the tvOS Siri remote: the pause/play button, the touchpad area, and the MENU button with a little effort. But there seems to be no way to detect or cover and – Button, or the function of Siri or home button.

Is it still there?

Currently, the – and (volume) buttons on the Siri remote can be accessed through private functions. These Cannot be overridden or detected because they have a retention function. The same is true for the home button.

There are a few points that support this statement. First, as the OP pointed out, no event is detected with the volume button Any actions related to them. They also don’t trigger pressBegan or similar events.

Another good place to use remote/controllers to find more options is GCGameController. It looks like it has all the related functions, but The volume buttons are reserved. Take a look at
Use Apple TV Remote as the game controller part here. It mentions all the buttons on the remote that can be used in CGGameController.

As I have in other posts As mentioned in, this is a fairly new operating system, but not everything is available. You can submit a bug report to Apple at any time and request certain APIs to be disclosed.
