Silverlight is Created as a lightweight 5 MB plug-in, it can run on Windows and Mac while meeting strict Internet usage security guidelines. From my perspective, Silverlight is a different tool for different purposes.
Why not authorize WPF or ASP.NET instead of creating new products?
ASP.NET is just the server-side language of the website. Although they have added support for AJAX ASP.NET controls and other content, it still can’t come close to the richness that Silverlight has Degree.
