Having said that, run a RAID 6 array and rebuild a The performance degradation should be minimal when driving. (If you rebuild a RAID 1 or RAID 5 array, the impact will be even greater.)

I am building a 7-disk RAID 6 array on a DELL MD3000 DAS box. My first task is storage space, so I want to use 2TB drives – but I am worried about how long it will take to rebuild a failed disk.

Reconstruction time is affected by hardware details (RAID level, interface, drive size, rotation speed, driver and firmware quality) as well as system load, disk size and disk utilization All are very subjective. This makes it very difficult to provide valuable estimates.
That said, running a RAID 6 array, the performance degradation should be minimal when rebuilding a drive. (If you rebuild RAID 1 or RAID 5 arrays will have a greater impact.)
